Mommy Moments | The Tyree Way
Good morning friends!! Yes, I know it’s been a minute since we’ve spoken, my bad. There were some new changes to my app I use for my photos & it threw me for a loop! Then, my laptop plug broke {can’t be replaced unless I buy a brand new laptop} so sometimes it charges and other times I’m stuck with a dead battery. Also, my laptop is rather old, so it reboots in the middle of me posting, which you can imagine how I feel when nothing gets saved! Ugh! Anywho, I’m here and I have so much to share with you, so buckle up friends.
Today, I want to share a Mommy moment with you because, well, that’s what I like to share on Monday’s lol! So here we go.
This past weekend, my husband & I had to have a serious talk with our children. We discussed the rules of the Tyree household because we found that they were not being followed consistently. My husband went over two main rules that should never be broken and those were: 1. There is zero lying in our house. 2. They are to respect me as their mother. If those two rules are broken, there will be a punishment.
Now, to some these rules may not be a big deal, but to us, they’re pretty major. For one, we want to always trust our children. We want to believe everything they say because if God forbid they’re ever in a tough situation, we need to know and trust that what story they give is the honest TRUTH! There won’t be anytime for guessing if they’re telling the truth. So when we teach them about the importance of honesty now, it will click and stick with them when they are older.
As far as respecting me at all times, they are with me more than they are with my husband because he’s at work. My husband Jason doesn’t want to come home to see me drained & frustrated because I was talking to the kids all day for being rude or disobedient.
He knows when I’ve had a bad day just by the atmosphere in the house!
DETOUR ALERT:: By the way, did you know we can set the mood in our household? It’s crazy what a good or bad day does to the atmosphere. It’s up to us to keep the atmosphere peaceful so our husbands can walk in and sense that peace.
BACK IN ROUTE: So Jason made sure he explained to the kids the importance of being obedient. He also explained to our son Jeremiah that if he doesn’t respect me as his mother, it will be difficult to respect t other women that comes in his life. The saying goes, if you distracted your mother, you’ll disrespect your wife. I believe that is very true.
After our conversation, the next day we were tested as parents. There was something our son did that he lied about and tried to cover it up with yet another lie. We caught him in those lies & he understands there will be a punishment. What he did was pretty major, but since we are Christ followers, we had to explain to Jeremiah that what he did not only displeases us as his parents, but it displeases God. On Friday morning before school, I walked Jeremiah through a prayer of forgiveness. I explained to him that when we make mistakes, it makes God super happy when we come to Him for forgiveness and when we tell Him we’re sorry. I explained that God has no record of wrong, so when we do something He doesn’t keep record. But, it’s important not to keep making those mistakes. Jeremiah understood and we prayed together.
As parents, it’s tough to have these conversations with our kids. But one thing I try to remember is, these conversations will always be remembered especially when they have matured.
So have you had to have a conversation like this with your kids? How did it go? Let me know below.
Until next time, “laugh hard, love harder, capture each moment & sprinkle a little joy in someone else’s life.” – XO Shona
